Hello 7th Grade Families
Starting this Monday, March 1st, I will be out on medical leave until the end of March or beginning of April. My students have been aware of this for the last few weeks. Mrs. Nancy Norris has been my substitute for the last two school weeks working in the classroom while I have taught remotely from home. She is now very familiar with our routine and will be filling in for me while I'm out.
Some things to note:
1. Hybrid/Remote students will still need to log in to their classes as usual.
2. Students have a book group packet they have been working on since January 25th. Class time has been given to work on the packet with the support of the teacher and peers and should also have been worked on at home. All of it will be due on March 11th with no late work accepted due to the length given to work on the packet. This will count as a test score for this trimester.
3. All students logged on to a new Google Classroom Thursday and Friday this past week. I will be using this as a way to keep everything simplified for Mrs. Norris as she will be a teacher in that classroom. This will include both ELA and Social Studies assignments ONLY for the time I am out. Students should NOT archive their previous classrooms!! If you were already signed up to receive weekly updates, you will still receive them for this new classroom without having to rejoin.
I will be checking my email occasionally as I am able so you still may contact me for non-urgent needs. In the meantime, please reach out to Mrs. Norris at [email protected] until my return.
I also wanted to apologize about the inconsistency of grades this trimester. It has been a very difficult thing to keep on top of since I tend to get about a 50%, if that, turn in rate. A lot of time unfortunately has gone in to keeping track of who has turned in what and when. Understanding the nature of this year, I have tried to be more lenient as I understand the many challenges our students are facing. There has been no easy answer to solving this. I am updating all the grades this weekend and only including assignments that really demonstrated to me their understanding of various topics. I ensure you, we have done a lot of learning in the classroom!
I wanted to thank you for your ongoing patience as I've tried several different strategies to make things easier on students as they try to cope with everything else going on around them. I truly believe that a child is not able to fully take in learning if their basic needs are not met and that includes their mental health, which right now is at an all time low for a majority of our middle school students. I also understand that parents are also going through a very difficult time as well and that it can all become very overwhelming.
I will miss seeing students for the time I'm out, but I look forward to a speedy recovery and getting back to it in April!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Chandra Cote
