Hello 7th Grade Families,
This year has proven to be quite challenging when keeping up with missing/late work assignments now that everything is on Google Classroom and I don't have students physically turning in papers. The work has felt like it has tripled as well because of the need to be sure I'm reaching all the students in class and at home!! Rest assured, the work has not actually tripled, it's just now I'm having to digitally keep track of work that would have normally been completed in class or in a real Writer's or Reader's notebook live and in person; that I would normally quickly assess in class.
Now, more than ever, I need students to be at least attempting their daily work, every day! It is quite difficult to move on when work hasn't at least been attempted the day before. It is time consuming to explain the work several times over the course of the week because directions have not been followed. It is difficult to fill the gaps for true misunderstanding if no work is completed to show where those misunderstandings are. The notifications that have inundated my inbox have been unreal for the work that gets submitted late and has felt like an impossible task to keep up with it all and keep you families updated on the progress of your children as well.
Everything in these Covid times seems to be trial and error. The way I have been trying to do things with work is constantly evolving and accepting late work is one of those evolutions. This week I am going to attempt something new to hopefully help keep students and myself on top of all the work. I hope that you will take a moment and check out the tab "Grades" on this site to further explain what we are going to attempt from now on.
It is my ultimate goal to make sure your child is successful in my class and it is my hope that this is just one more step in making that a reality! Please email me anytime you have concerns. We're in this together and I appreciate all the work you are putting in at home as well to ensure your child's success this year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cote
