Due to the forecasted rain, middle school will not be having exploratory day tomorrow, June 14th.
Fifth grade was fortunate to have Starr Kelly from the Abbe Museum present to us about cultural differences. Students had a hands-on opportunity to observe artifacts from the Wabanaki culture and Southwest tribes' cultures and compare the two. It was so wonderful to see the students make connections with our recent regions unit and our mini lessons on stereotypes in cultures.
The 5-2 class voted on what kind of regional themed celebration they would want for winning The Great State Race and they, surprisingly, chose the Northeast Region. We celebrated with Whoopie Pies, Cape Cod potato chips, saltwater taffy, and nautical themed decorations, as well as a few regional sodas including Moxie. The students had a great time!
Thank you to all the families that helped get postcards mailed to the students. Thank you to Mrs. Ludden for the donation of whoopie pies. And thank you CDS PTG for the decorations and extra goodies! CONGRATULATIONS 5-2!!! YOU RECEIVED POSTCARDS FROM ALL 50 STATES!!! Coming in at a very close second is 5-3 with 44 states and 5-1 has 35 states! Thank you to all of you who helped participate in this very fun contest. We have learned a lot about our 50 states!
We have one class that is sooooo close!! Here are the states that each class still needs:

Lately, disruption in the classroom has increased yet expectations have always remained the same. To protect everyone's right to learn, I have added a new consequence when classroom expectations have not been met. The first consequence has always been a warning, now the second consequence will be asking the disruptive student to leave the classroom and sit in the office for the remainder of class time. This will be accompanied with a note home that will need to be signed, as well as an Academic notice to make up the work that was missed in class. Should this consequence not be sufficient and behavior continues, the final consequence will be automatic detention with dismissal from the classroom if warranted.
It is my hope that I never have to send anyone out of my classroom as providing students with as much learning opportunity as possible is my main goal. Reviewing the classroom rules and consequences with your child and discussing with them what this means and looks like, also goes a long way in helping me help your child be successful in class. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I continually thank you for your support of me and my students. Sincerely, Mrs. Cote Classroom Expectations: 1. Respect yourself, your peers, your teacher, and your surroundings. 2. Raise your hand silently to speak. 3. Follow all directions quickly the first time they are given. A message from our own Kristina Judkins:
"My name is Kristina Judkins. I am in 5th grade and when I was two years old I had cancer. Now I am cancer free. Every year I got Relay for Life to raise money to find a cure for cancer. This year's fund raiser is to fill the eggs with coins. Each grade will have 60 eggs to fill. You can fill them during break Monday through Thurfsday next week. This Friday and next Friday will be Hat Days. Put 50 cents in an egg an you can wear your hat for the day. In the hallway will be a bulletin board showing each grade's progress. Thanks for your support." Our very own Ella D'Auria entered the 2018 OSHER Map Making Contest and her map is in the top 10!!
